4 Things To Consider When Designing A Package
Designing a package? Package design is not easy and can be incredibly daunting for anyone developing a product. Knowing where to start can help you develop concepts that will not only help showcase your product, but highlight your brand as well. Here are three tips to get you started and help you figure out the right direction for your package design.
1.YOUR AUDIENCE
As with every design project you need to consider your audience when starting a package design. Knowing who is going to buy the product is as important as the product itself. Find out specifics of the target demographic. Narrow down gender, age group, and what might be of interest to the group and use it in your design. Look at similar products on the market and how they compare to the product you are designing for. See how other products are perceived by the target audience and how you could differentiate the product you are designing for.
2. INTERACTION
Think of how the general population is going to interact with the package you are creating. Is it something that has to hold the product or is it just for display and security? What can you do with design to make the life of the buyer easier. Small things like resealable bags and containers might be useful to the end user. Also, consider how the product will be displayed. Will they be on a shelf or hanging from hook? Does the product need to be refrigerated?
3. BRAND
Lastly consider the overall brand of the product. Is this a new product or part of a family of products? It might be worthwhile to create a package design that can be used for future variations of the product or something that can be easily modified for different products. Use established brand colors, fonts and logos within the design to further enforce the brand image.
Regardless if you are a packaging veteran or just starting out in package design one thing that can be agreed upon is the need for quality printing. The general population does “judge a book by it’s cover.” Because of this your package design needs to look impeccable and appealing to your general audience. Finding a printer that can print your packaging flawlessly, within budget, and stay on schedule is essential to the success of your product.
